Abstract

This manual is for use in the planning, design, and operation of agricultural and landscape irrigation systems using reclaimed municipal wastewater. It is written for civil and sanitary engineers, agricultural engineers, and agricultural extension workers and consultants. Several chapters were written especially for California readers, but much of the manual is applicable to arid and semi-arid environments outside California. Irrigation for optimizing crop production is emphasized and therefore detailed instruction in the calculation of crop water requirements is included. Furthermore, water management for salinity and sodicity control, and economic, health, and legal aspects of reclaimed wastewater irrigation are discussed. The final 4 of the 15 chapters review the fate of wastewater constituents (nitrogen and phosphorus, trace elements, pathogens, and trace organics) in soil and groundwater.
