Abstract

This article descibes steps taken in the United States to restrict water demand, including the setting up of water conservation offices, committees, coordinators, and conferences; the planning of conservation programmes by utilities and water districts; and the implementation of conservation measures by the residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors. Specific measures mentioned include low-volume flush toilets, water-efficient landscape irrigation and pricing mechanisms.
