Abstract

This video cassette contains two films made by Shell in the early 1980s. The first is about the detrimental effects of deforestation in third world countries. For want of water describes how governments and international organizations are helping to bring clean water to rural areas in developing countries. Lack of capital, and lack of knowledge, particularly about elementary hygiene, are major problems. Education forms a vital part of the operation. The film was shot in Zimbabwe, Malawi and Nepal, and shows how village communities built their own pumping systems. The film quality is poor.
