Abstract

Concerted efforts in the sector have increased access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), although there are significant disparities and major challenges ahead. Increasingly, there is recognition that global monitoring of WASH should focus on sustainable services rather than coverage figures alone. There is also some evidence of the effectiveness of aid improving, but the sector does not yet have a comprehensive system for tracking aid effectiveness. This fact sheet presents global developments in WASH coverage and discusses its links to aid effectiveness. [authors abstract]
