Radical changes in government financing show a major shift in Dutch development policy.

From 2016 the budget for Dutch development organisations from the Dutch government will be more than halved, from €385 million per year to €185 million per year.
This announcement further indicates a major shift in Dutch development policy; a transition from aid to trade as the engine of sustainable, inclusive growth. The agenda for Dutch development cooperation has been outlined in 'A World to Gain: A New Agenda for Aid, Trade and Investment', published in 2013.
The agenda pursues three aims; eradicate extreme poverty in a single generation, inclusive growth all over the world and thirdly success for Dutch companies abroad. New from 2016 are €15 million per year for direct financing of Southern NGOs and €10 million per year for innovation.
