Abstract

There are significant variations across districts in Uganda in sanitation standards, characterised by recurrent outbreaks of faecal-related diseases like cholera.

In 2007, LeaPPS (Learning for Policy and Practice in Sanitation & Hygiene) set out to contribute towards improving access to sanitation and hygiene in Uganda through learning and sharing among various stakeholders working on these issues.

LeaPPS, later called LeaPPS-WASH, was initially implemented in the districts of Kyenjojo, Kamwenge, Arua and Koboko, and has expanded to include more districts, and also water issues. The summary document presents the learning process of LeaPPS and scaling up to other districts.
