A 2-week training programme to introduce Water Services that Last and Costing Sustainable Services curricula to BSc students and educational staff of the University Eduardo Mondlane - Rural Engineering School was held in March 2014.

A 2-week training programme was delivered to BSc students and the future lecturer of the University Eduardo Mondlane - Rural Engineering School. The training, a NUFFIC-funded and TU Delft-managed initiative, took place in March 2014 under the "Introduction of Water and Sanitation Curricula at the UEM" initiative, supported with funding from the NUFFIC NICHE facility for capacity building in higher education and water and sanitation.
The training curriculum (updated and improved from 2013) consists of 17 modules on a service delivery approach, contextualised for Mozambique, including overall WASH legal and policy environment, institutional arrangements, planning, monitoring, costing, infrastructure development, sanitation and hygiene.
The training was delivered in Portuguese at the UEM-ESUDER (Escola Superior de Desenvolvimento Rural) in Vilanculos, Mozambique from 17 to 29 March 2014. In total one future lecturer and 19 final (4th) year Rural Engineering students were trained during 2014. The 2014 training followed the initial trial programme conducted in 2013 for 21 students and one lecturer.
The training programme and its associated materials, all adapted for the Mozambican context, are to be integrated into the UEM - ESUDER curriculum for rural Engineers and presented in the future by the newly trained staff lecturer. Although no formal/final training evaluation was conducted, the training programme included an exam that counts towards the students' grades.
