Abstract | This policy brief summarizes the findings from a literature review and research carried out by WaterAid in the districts of Longido and Hanang Districts in Northern Tanzania. It first discusses the water needs and sanitation and hygiene practices of pastoralists. It then it looks at the impact of the National Water Policy (NAWAPO) on access to water and sanitation services for pastoralists in Tanzania. The policy brief concludes with recommendations on how government, CSOs and service providers can effectively work with pastoralist communities. It calls for further research and support to develop water supply, sanitation and hygiene solutions that are in harmony with pastoralist livelihood systems. |
