By developing and promoting new tools, skills and partnership practices that foster WASH systems in the districts that we work, and sharing our learning with partners at national level, we aim to scale our systems approach to the development of services in all our focus countries
About IRC in India
Our team of two, based in Delhi and led by Ruchika Shiva brings together skills in grassroots and policy influencing. The main focus of our national level work is on understanding financial flows to WASH. Our partner district in India is Ganjam in Odisha State, where we are focusing on one block in particular: Chatrapur.
You can find more information about our India programme in the For Experts section.
About Chatrapur: population: 94,683 people | water coverage (piped): 49% (rural) 46% (urban) | sanitation coverage: 53% (rural) 75% (urban)
The focus of our work in Ganjam district, is Chatrapur block, which contains the district town and a number of villages. In Chatrapur, we are working with the district administration to develop a clear vision for WASH services in the block. Together with our partners we are mapping existing capacities and identifying gaps. As part of this, we're developing training materials for WASH sector professionals to strengthen local WASH sytems and ensure sustainability.
