Abstract

This annual report reflects on the results of the third year of our strategy to ensure access to safe water and sanitation for everyone, for good by 2030, which convinced us that we are on the right track. Long-term partnerships with districts in focus countries are central to our work. We are committed to working with our district partners to ensure sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services for all by 2030.

An "IRC at a glance" infographic provides data on who was involved in our work, what we produced and how many people we reached in 2019. The report reflects on how in 2019 we implemented two WASH master plans in Burkina Faso and Ghana and supported the development of four more: one in Uganda, and three in Ethiopia. These master plans are proof of the commitment of our district partners, particularly their local governments. Our role is that of a change hub. We bring people together, unite them around a common vision, and enable learning and adaptation – supporting government leadership throughout. This brings about change to strengthen local and national WASH systems. Country stories in the report further reflect on accomplishments and are accompanied by an "IRC country at a glance" infographic which includes programme and WASH coverage data. The report also reflects on highlights from our International Programme and the Watershed Programme. It concludes with an overview of governance and staffing, an income statement for 2015-2019, donors and clients supporting our work, and expenditure per programme in 2019. The report includes quotes from many of our clients, local communities, donors, partners and colleagues, showing how by working together, we aim to deliver WASH services that last.
